The New York Times reports model Naomi Sims died this past weekend at the age of 61. The cause of death was breast cancer. She was considered to be the "first black super model" for appearing on the cover of Ladies Home Journal in November 1968, a time when African American models were few and far between. A trail blazer for black women, Ms. Sims will forever be remembered as someone who built the platform that other black models can now stand on. Rest In Peace.
